The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was the third most produced fighter aircraft in America during World War II. It first took to the air in 1938 and until 1943 remained the only active and available fighter in large numbers in the US Air Force. It served well through most of the conflict due to its low cost, ease of maintenance and reliability.<\/p>\n
On the obverse of this coin, he is depicted in a battle over a rice field against a Japanese aircraft, which symbolizes his participation in World War II.<\/p>\n
The reverse of the coin depicts the profiles of the two pilots, symbolizing different eras and types of use: civil and military. There are several planes in the sky, also representing different eras and used as a tribute to the history of aviation.<\/p>\n
