To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, Monnaie de Paris released a collection dedicated to the soldiers of the four main allied countries. This collection celebrates the four fates of French commandos, British airborne troops, and American and Canadian infantrymen. The Normandy landings were an amphibious assault carried out on June 6, 1944 in Normandy during World War II by the United States, Great Britain, Canada and their allies against the occupying forces of Germany.
\nThe set includes 4 coins: French troops and \u201cSword Beach\u201d, Canadian troops and \u201cJuno Beach\u201d, British troops and \u201cPegasus Bridge\u201d, US troops and \u201cOmaha Beach\u201d. The reverse of these coins depicts a spiral of all the allied countries that took part in the landings by land, sea or air. The stars under the flags are also a tribute to the Freedom Road, milestones marking the route taken by the American 3rd Army to liberate France.<\/p>\n
