Thorpe won gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon at the 1912 Olympics, becoming the first person to achieve such feats. In addition to track and field, he was an American football star and played for professional baseball and basketball teams. In 1920, he became the first president of the National Football League (NFL).<\/p>\n
The coin’s reverse features a portrait of Thorpe, along with two dynamic scenes depicting his athletic achievements: on the left, he is seen running at the 1912 Olympics; on the right, he is seen playing American football. The inscription “WA-THO-HUK” represents his name in the Sauk and Fox language. The coin has “JIM THORPE” and “$1” at the top and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” at the bottom.<\/p>\n
