The 2008 “Hamburg” coin is one of Germany’s most famous commemorative coins, and its popularity stems from the so-called “error map of Europe.” It is part of the renowned “Bundesl\u00e4nder” series, each coin dedicated to one of Germany’s federal states. <\/p>\n
This coin’s error stems from the fact that it was minted using the old common-side die with the previous map design of Europe, although since 2007, coins should have used a new, more expanded version of the map without internal borders. As a result of this oversight, the “old map” variety is considered rarer and highly prized among collectors. <\/p>\n
The obverse of the coin depicts one of the most famous Baroque churches in Germany and one of the symbols of the city of Hamburg \u2013 St. Michael’s Church.<\/p>\n
