For centuries, the Strait of Hormuz has been the most<\/p>\n
an important sea route between Europe and India, and<\/p>\n
Oman’s coastal capital, Muscat, was the most<\/p>\n
important port. Since 1746 the country has been ruled by<\/p>\n
the Said dynasty, which also introduced<\/p>\n
distinctive national emblem. It consists of two<\/p>\n
crossed swords and the so-called khanjar – curved<\/p>\n
dagger, which is still worn on holidays and<\/p>\n
solemn occasions. National emblem<\/p>\n
depicted on both sides of the coins of this set of rials.<\/p>\n
The obverses also show the name of the former sultan.<\/p>\n
Qaboos bin Said. The set was released for the 45th anniversary<\/p>\n
anniversary of his accession to the throne in 1970.<\/p>\n
