Both the country and the currency are named after the South American<\/p>\n
freedom fighter Simon Bolivar<\/p>\n
which, in addition to Bolivia, also brought Ecuador, Colombia,<\/p>\n
Panama, Peru and Venezuela to independence from Spain.<\/p>\n
In honor of the indigenous peoples of Bolivia and its multinational identity<\/p>\n
in 2009 the official name of the country<\/p>\n
was changed to “Plurinational State of Bolivia”.<\/p>\n
This is the first complete series of coins with a new name.<\/p>\n
The obverse features the exceptional national coat of arms.<\/p>\n
The reverse shows the denominations and the motto “La uni\u00f3n es la fuerza” (“Unity is strength”).<\/p>\n
