The Karachay-Cherkess Republic is located in the foothills of the northwestern Caucasus. The administrative center is the city of Cherkessk. Most of the territory of the republic is occupied by mountains (about 80%). On the border with Kabardino-Balkaria is the highest peak of the Caucasus – Elbrus.<\/p>\n
