Royal Mint Government Engraver William Wyon created some of the most iconic coin designs of the Victorian era. His portrait “Young Head” of 1838 pleased Queen Victoria so much that it adorned the coins of her reign for almost 50 years.<\/p>\n
In 1847, to celebrate Victoria’s 10th birthday as queen, a silver crown was issued, later known as the “Gothic Crown”.<\/p>\n
