After the victorious war of independence<\/p>\n
against the Spaniards sovereignty of the Dominican Republic<\/p>\n
was far from achieved.<\/p>\n
First, it was united with Haiti in 1822,<\/p>\n
and behind the struggle for independence from Haiti in 1844<\/p>\n
followed by a new colonization of Spain 17 years later.<\/p>\n
Spanish rule finally ended<\/p>\n
in 1865 with the Restoration War.<\/p>\n
Many heroes came out of various wars,<\/p>\n
some of which are noted in this<\/p>\n
