East Timor – from buffalo horn crown to cockfighting.<\/p>\n
The East Timor payment system is quite unique.<\/p>\n
Alongside the banknotes of the official US-Dollar currency<\/p>\n
the Banco Central de Timor-Leste has also been issuing its<\/p>\n
own Centavo coins since 2003.<\/p>\n
Motives are focused both on nature,<\/p>\n
and on the culture of the island state:<\/p>\n
from the traditional kaybauk headdress, in the form of buffalo horns,<\/p>\n
and the nautilus, also called “living fossil”,<\/p>\n
to the popular gambling sport of cockfighting.<\/p>\n
The obverse depicts a nautilus, a rice plant,<\/p>\n
fighting cock, traditional beiro boat<\/p>\n
and coffee plant.<\/p>\n
The reverse shows the denominations,<\/p>\n
kaybauk and traditional tais pattern with stylized crocodiles.<\/p>\n
