Yemen’s first set of coins since unification in 1990<\/p>\n
Shahara village is located at an altitude of 2600 meters<\/p>\n
on a rocky mountain and was an important stronghold during the conflict<\/p>\n
with the Ottoman Empire in the 16th and 17th centuries.<\/p>\n
Around the same period was built<\/p>\n
impressive bridge, which is depicted on<\/p>\n
reverse of a 10 rial coin from this set.<\/p>\n
Also interesting is the endemic dragon blood tree on the 20 rial coin.<\/p>\n
Its Arabic name is “Blood Brothers Tree”,<\/p>\n
which refers to the story of Cain and Abel.<\/p>\n
The other two coins feature the Yemeni national emblem.<\/p>\n
and the central bank building.<\/p>\n
The years of minting are indicated on all coins both in Gregorian,<\/p>\n
as well as Islamic calendars.<\/p>\n
