There are several subspecies of tigers, all of which are endangered, of which the Bengal tiger is the most famous, with only 2,500 individuals living in the wild. Of the approximately 100,000 tigers that existed at the beginning of the 20th century, their population has declined by 95%, and only 4,500 tigers remain, due to the hunting of their skins as trophies and the development of human civilization, followed by the loss of their natural habitat. Unlike many members of the feline family, Bengal tigers are water-loving animals that are abundant in the jungle and forest environment in which they live, for which they are excellently adapted. Their claws have developed interdigital membranes that allow them to swim easily and quickly.<\/p>\n
