Silver Coin €10 France 2025 – Ceilings of the Paris Opera Granier
€105.00 includes 24% VAT
In 2025, the Palais Garnier celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of its architect, Charles Garnier, as well as the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Paris Opera.
On this occasion, the Paris Mint pays tribute to the Palace, its history and, in particular, the famous ceiling of the auditorium.
The dome that rises above the main hall of the Opera Garnier is decorated with two superimposed works, which are depicted on this coin.
The obverse of this colored coin depicts Marc Chagall’s 1964 fresco for the ceiling of the main hall of the Garnier Opera House, a vibrant collection of shapes and vibrant colors dedicated to 14 composers.
The reverse depicts Jules-Eugène Lenepveu’s 1872 work “The Muses and the Hours of the Day and Night,” a remarkable example of 19th-century academic art with scenes rich in mythological and temporal symbolism that reflect the aesthetic and cultural aspirations of the time. The coin’s denomination and the name “République Française” (French Republic) are positioned at the center of the composition, in the style and position of the grille that once supported a large chandelier.
With this collection, Monnaie de Paris makes these two legacy works accessible and celebrates the timelessness of these two artists’ work.
