2 euro Monaco 2025 – Marquisate of Les Baux de Provence
€325.00 includes 24% VAT
Les Baux-de-Provence is a small historic commune in southern France, renowned for its ancient castle and rich cultural heritage. The first settlements on this site date back to prehistoric times, and in the Middle Ages, it was home to a powerful seigneury owned by the Baux family. These lands later came under the control of the Counts of Provence, and then the French Crown.
In 1642, King Louis XIII granted the estate to the House of Grimaldi, and since then the title of Marquis de Baux has traditionally belonged to the heir to the throne of Monaco. Today, it is held by Crown Prince Jacques-Honoré Rainier.
In honor of the princely house’s historical connection with this region, a commemorative 2-euro coin will be issued in November 2025. The reverse depicts the fortifications of Les Baux-de-Provence and the picturesque landscape surrounding them in their modern form.
