Steel drums and the tropical nature of Trinidad and Tobago

This is the complete first set of coins

Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, proclaimed in 1976.

The southernmost island nation in the Caribbean

not only possesses unique natural resources,

but also has a diverse culture.

The national

musical instrument – steel drum.

It was invented in the 1930s and originally

was built from old oil barrels.

In addition to steel drums, the reverse depicts

hummingbird, a large bird of paradise brought from New Guinea,

hibiscus flower, chaconia flower (national flower)

and a banana palm with the FAO logo.

The obverse features the national coat of arms.
