2 euro 2021 San Marino 450th anniversary of the birth of Caravaggio (BU)

Since March 1, 2021, San Marino will issue 2 Euros “The Penitent Magdalene” in honor of the 450th anniversary of the birth of Caravaggio.
On the obverse of the 2 euro “450 years of Caravaggio” is a fragment of the work “The Penitent Magdalena”, written in 1596. The model was a representative of an ancient profession. A few years later, she was found in the Tiber River. Experts point out that Caravaggio had financial problems, since he had to attract low-paid models as models. But Caravaggio was able to masterfully show the image of a repentant soul and melancholy.
