10 euro Vatican 2020 – Madonna della Pietà

“Madonna della Pietà”, or “Vatican Pieta”, is one of the earliest and most famous works of the outstanding Renaissance artist, sculptor Michelangelo Buonarroti. The Pieta composition was created by a 24-year-old marble sculptor in 1499 and is kept in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. The height of the sculptural group depicting the Virgin Mary and the body of Jesus Christ lying on her lap is 1.74 m, width – 1.95 m. This is the only work of Buonarroti that was signed by him.
