On the obverse side of the banknote is Christopher Columbus – Italian navigator, who in 1492 opened the New World for Europeans. Columbus was the first of the well-known travelers to cross the Atlantic Ocean in the subtropical and tropical strip of the northern hemisphere and the first of Europeans to go in the Caribbean and Sargasso.
The zero-euro backside depicts the best-known European architecture and art objects: (left to right) Brandenburg Gate, Big Ben, Eiffel Tower, Colosseum, Sagrada Familia, Manneken Pis and Mona Lisa.
