On the obverse side of the banknote is the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco – it combines the museum itself and the Oceanographic Institute in Monaco. The museum was founded in 1889 by Prince Albert I of Monaco; the Oceanographic Institute was opened in 1906.

The zero-euro backside depicts the best-known European architecture and art objects: (left to right) Brandenburg Gate, Big Ben, Eiffel Tower, Colosseum, Sagrada Familia, Manneken Pis and Mona Lisa.
