1/4 euro France 2023 – Paris 2024 Olympics – Golf

On the occasion of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Monnaie de Paris pays homage to this renowned international competition with a collection dedicated to sport, its values, athletes and the heritage of the host country. Olympic and Paralympic Games are celebrated.

This coin is dedicated to the sport of golf. It was one of the first modern sports, the rules of which were codified in 1754 in the city of St. Andrews in Scotland. However, the sport’s origins date back even earlier, as there are traces of a similar sport played in the Netherlands and then introduced to the British Isles in the 15th century. At the end of the 19th century, the first women’s tournaments were established. Today there are over 60 million golfers and over 30,000 golf courses in the world.

The reverse side of the series shows a view of Paris, where the Seine looks like an athletics track. The Eiffel Tower rises above the city and illuminates the competition. The PARIS2024 emblem completes this composition.
