€5.00
Native Americans have served in the US military in every conflict since the Revolutionary War. They served at a higher rate in relation to their population than any other ethnic group. During World War I, Native Americans volunteered to fight in astonishing numbers, although most of them were not eligible for the draft. Of the 10,000 Native Americans who served in the Army and 2,000 who served in the Navy, three out of four were volunteers. Native Americans have received recognition for their service, including five Medals of Honor during World War II. Their exemplary track record continues to this day.
On the obverse, the central figure of “Sacagavea” is preserved, carrying her little son Jean Baptiste.
The reverse depicts eagle feathers, which were traditionally earned in combat or for an act of bravery. Eagle feathers are revered and respected, given the utmost attention and care, and should be proudly displayed in homes. Stars representing the five branches of the US military are in the foreground, with a circle additionally indicating Native Americans.
