Nizhny Novgorod is one of the oldest cities in Russia, an important economic, industrial, scientific, educational and cultural center of the country. Today, the capital of the Volga Federal District is the largest transport hub, a million-plus city, the fifth in terms of population. In 2021, Nizhny Novgorod celebrates 800 years since its foundation.

On the reverse of the coin, in the middle part of the disc, there is a relief image of the building of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair; top left – the coat of arms of the city of Nizhny Novgorod; on the ring along the circumference there are inscriptions: at the top – “ANCIENT CITIES OF RUSSIA”, at the bottom – “NIZHNIY NOVGOROD”.

The obverse of the coin is standard: number “10” in the center. At the top, along the circumference, write “BANK OF RUSSIA”. At the bottom of the obverse is the figure “2021”.
