1.5 Euro Spain 2022 Endangered Species – Gorilla
€19.00 includes 22% VAT
There are two species of gorilla, the western gorilla and the eastern gorilla, with two subspecies each. With 97-98% of DNA identical to humans, they are the most similar to humans after chimpanzees. It is estimated that 80% of existing gorillas live outside protected areas, making them extremely vulnerable to human activities. The gorilla population is estimated to be declining by about 2.7% each year, putting these large primates at risk. Illegal logging in which gorillas live and poaching to sell gorilla meat, supply baby gorillas to zoos or research centers are just some of the factors that threaten this species.
The coins of Spain were issued in a special design with enameling on the obverse, which ensures greater realism of the image.
The obverse of the Spanish 1.5 Euro coin depicts a Gorilla.
The reverse (common to all coins) depicts a floral ornament and animal tracks, the denomination and the inscription ANIMALES EN PELIGRO DE EXTINCIÓN (Endangered Animals).
