1.5 Euro Spain 2022 Endangered Species – Irrawaddy Dolphin
€19.00 includes 22% VAT
Judging by its name, the Ayeyarwaddy River dolphin, you might think that this is a dolphin that lives only in this river, but it is a marine species that lives mainly in rivers close to the coast, in estuaries and the mouths of some large Asian rivers. Their range extends from the Bay of Bengal to New Guinea, the northern coast of Australia and the Philippines. They are slow-swimming dolphins compared to other dolphin species, but their expressive movable head and ability to spit water when they surface have unfortunately made them attractive and popular animals in dolphinariums. Although some countries have adopted strict conservation measures, this species of dolphin is seriously endangered. Pollution, habitat reduction and destruction, and accidental death in fishing nets are some of the threats facing this endemic Southeast Asian dolphin species.
The coins of Spain were issued in a special design with enameling on the obverse, which ensures greater realism of the image.
The obverse of the Spanish 1.5 euro coin depicts the Irrawaddy Dolphin.
The reverse (common to all coins) depicts a floral ornament and animal tracks, the denomination and the inscription ANIMALES EN PELIGRO DE EXTINCIÓN (Endangered Animals).
