1.5 euro Spain 2022 Endangered Species – Iberian lynx
€19.00 includes 22% VAT
The Iberian lynx is a carnivorous mammal endemic to the Iberian Peninsula, world-famous for its recovery after being critically endangered in the early 21st century. This is a medium-sized cat, weighing 10 to 15 kg. Its habitat is limited exclusively to the Iberian Peninsula, in Mediterranean scrub areas with abundant shrubs and little human presence. In early 2000, the Pyrenean lynx was on the verge of extinction, numbering less than a hundred individuals, making it the most endangered feline in the world. Through various conservation and breeding programs and increased public awareness, the species has now recovered to over a thousand individuals and is now considered “Critically Endangered” or “Endangered” by the IUCN. However, the Pyrenean lynx is one of the most endangered felines on our planet.
The coins of Spain were issued in a special design with enameling on the obverse, which ensures greater realism of the image.
The obverse of the Spanish 1.5 euro coin depicts the Iberian lynx.
The reverse (common to all coins) depicts a floral ornament and animal tracks, the denomination and the inscription ANIMALES EN PELIGRO DE EXTINCIÓN (Endangered Animals).
