Since the reign of Mary I, the National Press has become responsible for issuing the Gazeta de Lisboa, the predecessor of the current Diário da República, the official newspaper of the country, which is now published and open for use electronically as a public service, providing free access to the acts governing the life of the Portuguese society.
In 1768 the Royal Printing Workshop was founded, later renamed the National Press in 1833.
Obverse: the inscription “1768-2018 IMPRENSA NACIONAL DUZENTOS E CINQUENTA 250 ANOS PORTUGAL MMXVIII” as if the letters and numbers were books in a library. Below the inner circle on the left is the name of the artist Eduardo Aires and on the right is the INCM mint. The outer ring of the coin features the 12 stars of the EU flag.
