Saxony-Anhalt is one of the new lands of Germany, the capital of which is the city of Magdeburg. The main sightseeing of the city is the Magdeburg Cathedral of Mauritius and Catherine of Alexandria, the image of which was placed on the reverse of the new coin.
Magdeburg Cathedral is considered one of the most ancient cathedrals of the Roman Empire, built in the Gothic style, as well as the largest and most majestic temple in Germany (its height is 104 m). The temple was founded by Emperor Otto I in 937, on the site of the Monastery of Mauritius, and was originally in the form of a regular church. But already in 968, it was rebuilt and elevated to the status of an imperial cathedral. After his death, the emperor was buried in the temple grounds.
