In 2022, the National Ballet of Finland will celebrate its centenary. Swan Lake , premiered in January 1922, was the first ballet staged in Finland and thus a significant event in Finnish cultural life. By the time of its premiere in Helsinki in 1922, it was performed only by Russian and Czech ballet companies. Even President K.J. Stolberg was seen in the presidential box with his wife.

Over the past hundred years, the Finnish National Ballet has grown from a small semi-professional group into a full-fledged professional ballet capable of fully representing the major classical ballets.
