2 euro Belgium 2011 – 100 years of International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a holiday celebrated annually on March 8 in a number of countries as “women’s day.” The UN celebrates this year as the International Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. The central part of the coin depicts two famous women of Belgium – Isala Van Diest (1842-1916, the first female Belgian doctor), and Marie Popelin (1846-1913, the first female lawyer in the country).
