2 euro Cyprus 2023 – 60 years of the Central Bank of Cyprus BU

The Central Bank of Cyprus has its origins in the British colonial government of Cyprus, which established the Cyprus Monetary Board in 1927. This followed the unilateral annexation of Cyprus by the British Empire in 1914, the Treaty of Lausanne establishing the international legality of this British takeover in 1923, and the full establishment of colonial rule in Cyprus, with the creation of the Legislative Council in 1926.
The coin features microchip instruments symbolizing the stability of the economy in the modern industrial and digital age, ensured by the Central Bank of Cyprus.
