Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a state of the Federal Republic of Germany, created in 1945 and recreated in 1990. Due to the influence of geographical factors and the peculiarities of historical development, this federal state with a population of about one and a half million people is the least populated of all the states of modern Germany. For a long time, these lands were inhabited by the Slavs, who gave part of this territory the name from the Slavic “Pomorie” – Pomerania.
The coin features the Jasmund National Park. This is Germany’s smallest national park, with an area of 3,003 hectares. The most significant site of the national park is the chalk rock “King’s Chair” (Königsstuhl), 118 meters high.
