The coin is dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the Italian Financial Guard.
The Guardia di Finanza is an Italian law enforcement agency reporting to the Minister of Economy and Finance. The Financial Guard was founded on October 5, 1774. The Guardia di Finanza has primary responsibility for combating financial crime and smuggling, as well as the illegal drug trade. The Financial Guard also performs border police and customs duties at Italian airports.
The coin features a stylized version of the heraldic emblem of the Financial Guard.
