2 euro Luxembourg 2022 – 50th anniversary of the flag of Luxembourg
€10.00
The coin is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Luxembourg flag.
Luxembourg did not have a flag until 1830, when it adopted the national colors first used during the Belgian Revolution. On June 12, 1845, the flag used today was first adopted, but did not become the official symbol of Luxembourg until 1972. Shortly after its adoption, a nationwide debate arose over the design of the flag, as it was almost identical to the flag of the Netherlands. The flag of Luxembourg is distinguished by lighter colors and an elongated shape.
Red means brightness, revolution and strength. It also signifies the determination and courage of the people. The white in the middle signifies the harmony, peace and innocence of the Luxembourgish people. The blue color at the bottom means perseverance and determination.
