In 2024, Luxembourg will dedicate a commemorative €2 coin to its old Feierstëppeler coins. This is a design of a foundryman that first appeared on coins of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 1924, exactly one hundred years ago.
This design, created by Armand Bontenant, pays tribute to the steel industry of Luxembourg and is one of the most representative typologies of the country’s numismatics. It was first used on the 1 and 2 franc coins of 1924, and later appeared on the 50 cent coin in 1930; it remained on all three coins until 1964.
