Cáceres is part of the autonomous community of Extremadura in southwestern Spain. Since 1986, the historical part of the city has been included in the World Heritage List. The city was founded in 25 BC as a Roman colony of Norba Caesarina, in honor of its founders Gaius Norbanus Flaccus and Gaius Julius Caesar. It is part of the Via de la Plata (“Silver Way”) Camino de Santiago.
