2 euro Estonia 2025 – 500 years of Estonian written language

The coin commemorates an exceptional historical milestone in the history of Estonian culture – the 500th anniversary of the first Estonian language printing and the beginning of Estonian literary culture.
The text in Estonian, along with Livonian and Latvian, was first found in a book printed in Lübeck in 1525, the circulation of which was destroyed by opponents of the Reformation. In 1739, the Bible was translated into the Middle North Estonian dialect, which later formed the basis of the written language.
The center of the coin shows four stylized books forming the letter E.
