2 euro Latvia 2015 – 30th anniversary of the flag of the European Union BU

Commemorative coin issued by 19 European countries in honor of the 30th anniversary of the European Union flag. The reverse designer was chosen by Bank of Greece artist Georgios Stamatopoulos. His project won the competition for the best design of this coin. The competition was held on the initiative of the European Commission. A professional jury selected 5 coin designs (out of 62 applications), then they were put up for online voting. The coin features the EU Flag framed by twelve stylized human figures, the name of the issuing country and the years: “1985-2015”.
