5 euro Germany 2023 – Insects: Dragonfly

The fifth coin in the “Wonderful World of Insects” €5 colored coin series is dedicated to the dragonfly Calopteryx splendens, Switzerland’s 2008 Animal of the Year.
The “Banded demoiselle” dragonfly inhabits the shores of slow-moving waters that are less polluted and have sufficient sunlight. The style of fluttering and swaying, reminiscent of a butterfly’s flight, is as unmistakable as the metallic blue-green shimmering bodies and colored wings.
It is a Eurasian species, found from the Atlantic coast east to Lake Baikal and northwestern China.
