5 euro Germany 2024 – Insects: Hoverfly
€12.00
The seventh coin in the “Wonderful World of Insects” series of colored 5 euro coins is dedicated to the hoverfly. Measuring approximately 7 to 12 mm, the hoverfly is one of approximately 450 species of hoverflies found in Germany. Particularly striking is the yellow-black coloration, reminiscent of a wasp. This is how the fly protects itself from predators, although it itself is completely harmless and has no sting. Thanks to the movement of its wings at a speed of up to 300 beats per second, it can stay in the air like a helicopter.
