5 euro Slovakia 2023 – Brown bear

The brown bear is the largest predator in Slovakia. It has a stocky body, small eyes and ears, a short tail, pronounced claws, and thick, 8 to 12 cm long fur that has a wide range of shades from light brown to almost black. An adult male can weigh up to 350 kg. Brown bears in Slovakia are concentrated in the central, northern and northeastern mountainous regions. Bears winter in dens from about the beginning of November to April. At birth, cubs are blind, have short hair, and weigh less than 500 g. Bears in the wild can live for over 30 years.
