50 pence UK 2024 – Star Wars: Millennium Falcon

This is the first coin in the Star Wars series, dedicated to iconic vehicles. The Millennium Falcon is a fictional spaceship in the Star Wars universe, piloted by Han Solo and his assistant Chewbacca. According to Star Wars creator George Lucas, the design of the Millennium Falcon was inspired by a hamburger, with the cockpit looking like an olive stuck to the side. The ship model for Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back was built in a hangar owned by Marcon Fabrications in Pembroke Dock, west Wales. When completed, the model weighed over 23 tons and was equipped with a compressor to create a cushion of air so it could be moved. Especially for the filming of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the director decided to build the Millennium Falcon spaceship in great detail. The ship has been recreated to life-size and is also fully furnished inside.
