5 yuan China 2025 – Peking Opera

A commemorative coin issued by the People’s Bank of China honors one of the most important phenomena of traditional Chinese culture: Peking Opera. It is a classical Chinese theatrical art form that combines singing, dance, acting, music, and martial arts. Its roots date back to the 18th and 19th centuries, and in 2010, it was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The obverse depicts the national emblem of the People’s Republic of China, the name of the country and the year of issue – 2025.

The coin’s reverse features images of Peking Opera characters, particularly the male “jing” with his brightly painted face. It also features the denomination “5 元” and the inscription “中国 京劇艺术” (“The Chinese Art of Peking Opera”).
