The Apostle Paul, along with Saint Peter and James the Righteous, was the most prominent of the early Christian missionaries. Unlike the Twelve Apostles, there is no indication that Paul ever met Jesus prior to the latter’s crucifixion.

The coin depicts the conversion of St. Paul on the road to Damascus (the city is visible in the background); the saint, blinded by the light of heaven, falls from his rearing horse.
