The Supersaurus 3 euro coin series consists of 12 coins from the 2019-2022 issue. All 3 euro coins in this series are legal tender in Austria.
Styracosaurus-albertensis had four to six long spines extending from the neck collar, a smaller horn on each cheek, and one horn up to 60 cm long and 15 cm wide protruding from the nose. The function of these horns has long been the subject of scientific debate.
The frills could also be adorned with attractive patterns and vibrant colors, which could serve as a distinctive feature or help establish hierarchy in the herd.
The reverse depicts a Styracosaurus in the forest, with another lizard seen in the background. Below, along the edge, the name of the animal is written in Latin “STYRACOSAURUS ALBERTENSIS” and the year of issue of the coin “2021”.
On the obverse there is an image of 12 dinosaurs, which will be minted within four years. Around the circle is the name of the issuer’s country – “REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH” and the face value of the coin – “3 EURO”.
