Austria 3 euro coloured Dino – 2020 Mosasauros
€38.00
The largest and most impressive animals that have ever lived are now represented in a series of colored Austrian coins with a face value of 3 euros. The series brings back to life the prehistoric giants in the form of 12 excellent coins glowing in the dark, one of which is dedicated to the prehistoric hippo who controlled the waves, roamed the earth or dominated the sky. The second coin from the dinosaur series depicts the Moosaurus, the largest marine reptile that hunted in the seas of the late Cretaceous period before becoming extinct about 66 million years ago. The Mosasaurus, descended from land-based observing lizards, although equipped with flippers, was a predatory marine reptile found in Western Europe and North America, and possibly Japan and New Zealand. Mosasaurus means “lizard of the Meuse” since the first specimen was found near the river Meuse in the Netherlands. The giant reptile consisted of almost 40 different genera with numerous species, the largest of which reached a length of up to 17 meters. Experts believe that the mosaur lived near the surface of the water, where it hunted fish, turtles, birds, pterosaurs and plesiosaurs. Despite its ability to do this, it is believed that the Mozasaurus did not plunge into deeper waters.
