Colored coin 3 euros Austria 2025 – Bright Sea Life “Doridid Nudibranch”
€19.00 includes 24% VAT
The doridid nudibranch is an example of how nature creates beauty without effort. This sea slug is colorful and unusual. Under ultraviolet light, its colors become even brighter. He is featured on the eleventh coin in the Luminous Sea Creatures series.
Nudibranch glow in the dark, especially in deep water or in caves. This glow helps to deter predators. Although humans can’t see it, many fish do.
These mollusks don’t have a shell. Instead of shell defense, they use poisons. If the fish swallow them, they will quickly spit them back out. Nudibranch can also take the shoot cells from sea anemones and use them for defense.
Interestingly, they are hermaphrodites, meaning they are both male and female. When mating, both partners can impregnate each other. Their eggs look like little flowers. Larvae hatch from them, which have a small shell. Later, they lose it.
