Every spring Japan celebrates the cherry blossom viewing festival. It is an incredibly important part of Japanese culture, with a history spanning nearly 1,000 years. The festival takes place throughout Japan, with more than 1,000 venues.

For the Japanese, cherry blossoms represent the fragility of life – a reminder that life, while beautiful, is also tragically short.

The 2023 Japanese annual coin set consists of 6 coins in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 yen, as well as a silver medal with a unique design for 2023 – the Year of the Rabbit.
