Banknote 3 dollars Cook Islands 2021

The Cook Islands Government has issued a commemorative $3 banknote reflecting the archipelago’s cultural motifs and the symbolism of its marine environment.

The obverse depicts a nude figure of Nadzi holding a coconut and riding a shark named Mango—a symbol of the connection between humans and the ocean in the islands’ traditional culture. It is accompanied by elements of national symbols and inscriptions in the local language.

The reverse side is dedicated to the maritime heritage, depicting a fishing canoe and the deity Te Rongo, an element of the islands’ mythological tradition.
