Complete first set of coins in
Plurinational State of Bolivia.
Both the country and the currency are named after the South American
freedom fighter Simon Bolivar
which, in addition to Bolivia, also brought Ecuador, Colombia,
Panama, Peru and Venezuela to independence from Spain.
In honor of the indigenous peoples of Bolivia and its multinational identity
in 2009 the official name of the country
was changed to “Plurinational State of Bolivia”.
This is the first complete series of coins with a new name.
The obverse features the exceptional national coat of arms.
The reverse shows the denominations and the motto “La unión es la fuerza” (“Unity is strength”).
