The Ayuda Botanical Garden is located in opposite the Ajuda National Palace. It was built in 1768 during the reign of King Joseph I, with the aim of showing his grandchildren different plants from Africa, Asia and America. There were over 5,000 different plants. Ajuda Botanical Garden is Portugal’s first and oldest botanical garden.
